MG TD TF 1500 - GOF St. Charles 2012

Looks like I am going to be a "no-show" again this year.
Storms, kids roofs, blown motor on my every day driver ...don't see anyway of making it.
Was really looking forward to meeting some of you this tyme!

Anybody trailering to the event?
Ran across the perfect tow vehicle!
Sweet

HHuumm with some work, A T Type grill might be fitted????

We are going to the G. O. F. in New Jersey

.
SPW
STEVE WINCZE

if only they would have fitted suicide doors...
tom peterson

SO far from MN. 41 people and 22 cars. Wish you could make it.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

So far from Colorado I know of...1 peoples and 1 car that I know of ....Me. Trying to get the Mrs. to fly out but doubtful at this point. Taking a rather circuitous route to get there so if ya want the long distance award ya better leave in the morning.
LaVerne

LaVerne,
Thought you weren't going to make it either?

Same thoughts as me ...needs sucicide doors and a better radiator ... but the wings were kind of cool.
David Sheward

LaVerne, good to here you will be there. You may have to beat Dave Braun for the long distance drive. He takes circuitis routes when he goes. See ya there...
Tom Maine (TD8105)

We're going to be there but we're towing...
Hope the temps settle down abit...100+ degrees isn't comfortable unless you're in the pool with a drink.
Gene Gillam

I wasn't but somebody's wife here and I won't say who (Dan) sent the Mrs. a text telling her to come. That induced her to push me ta go. Besides I heard there was free beer.

Not quite as far as last years 5332 miles to the GOF west but still a considerable distance.

I see this thing is on a golf course...any hackers bringing clubs?
LaVerne

Beer, scotch ,soda(pop) in my room. I am stocking up.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

"SODA POP" ????
(Slang for some kind of "Minnesota Moonshine" I never heard of?)

1 Burbon, 1 Scotch, 1 Beer ...repeat until ...well you know!
David Sheward

Some states call it 'soda" some "pop" others use the word "coke" not the sniffing kind. Flavors are Root Beer, Coke, & 7 up,, . In other words, "non adult beverages".
Tom Maine (TD8105)

WC Fields said it best:
"I don't drink water....fish ____ in water".
(It's not "swim")
David Sheward

Love that one. Read the book...
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Dang,David-thought this might be your year to put in an appearance. Even put my free chicken decal on my valve cover racer (not a Bob quality ride - too quiet). Hope things get better.
Tom; Was always soda pop at our house - course grandparents were from MN. Seems a shame that no one is taking advantage of being surrounded by a golf course. Guess we could take some traffic cones and set up a road course. See ya there.
Dan Craig

See ya there.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Wife got plane tickets...coming in Tuesday Night....hide all the pictures and the empties. I'm leaving Sunday...I told ya it was a circuitous route. See ya the following Monday...I hope.
LaVerne

Most of the MN group will arrive Tuesday, we are overnighting in New Galarius. May get to see the factory that makes the motors for the new three wheel Morgan..
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Heading out tomorrow morning for the GOF...looking forward to meeting you guys. I'll be the one with the good-looking wife and the funny looking TC.

Gene

Gene Gillam

I wish I could meet you guys. Even though I live in A Chicago suburb, I can't get away from work. Didn't think this should be a poblem in my 60's, but these are intersting time we live in.
Bob McLeod TD 5618

Bob,
Come to the hotel one of the nights and say hello, I'll buy you a beer. Thankfully I'm in my 60's (late) and no longer tied to a desk...you'll get there soon enough.

Gene
Gene Gillam

Me too, Gene looking forward to finally meeting you. LaVerne is on the way, somewhere in the Dakotas, Should be a great GOF. I think there will be at least 3 Airline Coupe's and Bill Hentzen from our club and Chicago is trying to get a bunch of Ticfords there.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Ditto, Tom. Way too long knowing but not knowing the members here. Checked the weather there and it doesn't look good for cars with no tops (mine) - it's gonna be wet.
Gene Gillam

Been there, done that. Talked to LaVerne this AM, he was in Mitchell SD. On his way.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

At Oshkosh right now. Diane and I will meet up with the Minnesota T-register Monday night in New Glarus. Looking forward to seeing and meeting everyone.

Warmly
Dave

I'm in La Clarre. Waiting on the gang from Minnesota. Talked to Dan about an hour ago he was arriving at St Charles
LaVerne

Cold beer and a nice piece of fish - life is good. Waitin' on ya'll. Cooler here than home with pop up showers possible each day. Met some CA folks heading back from MGA meet in Dayton. Said they were meeting some MN MGers- you guys promise everybody free beer? See you in a while-Dan and Sharon
Dan Craig

Dan, what room are you in? We're in 614 in the Tower.
Just leaving now, 20 minutes to 9 to head own to the bar for a margarita.
Blue ball cap if you come.

To all who went to GOF Central, it was a great time. There were some early outs with the Valve Cover Racers but that happens. Gene Got a trophy and LaVerne had the most miles to get there. Dan looked sharp in the picture that taken before the car show. All in all a great time and good to meet new folks(Gene and his bride) and so see old friends that we only get to see maybe once a year. this could lead to bigger and better things, I have invited folks to MN and my house is only a mile from the Mall of America for shopping for better halfs. Dave Braun and Diane V won first place in the B judgeing....
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Tom,
Ann and I totally enjoyed ourselves at the GOF and one of the highlights was the beer/scotch feat in your room! Never have I ever seen so many beautiful MGs...felt like I had to be in England!

We were sitting at a trophy hog table...Dave Braun took his wife and her MGB and won 1st, Dan Craig took 2nd with his TD (out of 30+), Laverne took 3rd with his TF and as you mentioned I took 2nd with our TC (wasn't expecting anything sine it's so modified. Dan also won the Funkhana and Laverne took the log distance award with over 3200 miles.

Laverne and I came over to Dan's house in Ozark, MO after the GOF. What should have been a 7 hour or so drive turned into a 12 hour...Laverne's car kept slowing down unexpectedly. It was finally determined to be the fuel pump so we found a gas station with a nice picnic area (undercover) and Dan and Laverne swappers one from Dan's TD to the TF. After that it was smooth sailing if you can imagine Laverne sitting in a TF in 100+ weather at 70mph. A/C and a trailer make long trips so much nicer!

Laverne, Dan and I spent today at a car show in Carthage, MO in 100 degree weather...waiting now for the banquet.

Pictures when I get home.

Gene Gillam

Really a great time, Ann and Gene Gillam, Dan and Sharon Craig and LaVerne and Doris Downey make for great convention memories.

Diane and I continued to Chicago to meet with the FAA ACO (my day gig) to combine business with pleasure. We scored a plush hotel, took an early check-in, lounged in the hot tub and pool area until it was time for dinner with another aviation associate. The woman at the reception was so impressed with Diane's first place trophy that she moved us up to their members' area (that's how we scored the really good room) and comped our breakfast.

The temperatures broke and we enjoyed a perfect day of two lane driving from Chicago back to our sleepy river town in Minnesota, with stops, took us from 10 AM to 8 PM. The cruise control and the extra room in Diane's B "Maggie" is really welcome. Will Tommy ever get to go on a trip again?

warmly,
dave
