MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel pump wiring

I'm restoring a 1950 MGTD. I just bought a new fuel pump and notice it has two wiring mounts. I know the mount on the bottom is for the hot wire and assumed the mount on the top was for a ground wire. However, I notice the pump seems to ground itself when mounted. So, is there any need to connect a ground wire to the pump? I'll have to say, after a year and a half of working on the car it was finally nice to hear it make a sound when the key was turned. Even if it's just the purring of a fuel pump!

Robert - If the pump you purchased is a SU pump, then the screw connection on the base (aluminum pump body) is for a ground screw. The connection on the plastic cap of the pump is for power. The pump will ground itslef through the mounting screws if it is mounted directly to the chassis of the car, but on the TD, there are two rubber sound isolators that sandwich the mounting plate and if everything is mounted correctly, the base of the pump di isolated from the car's chassis and therefore from ground. If I have confused you with all of the above, send me an e-mail and I will send some pictures of how the pump should be mounted and wired. Good luck - Dave
