MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel pump replacement

I am the lucky owner of a 52 TD that has a MGA 1600 engine installed. I noticed that the fuel pump (not sure which model it is) runs all the time ..click, click, click, ( really fast)many times a second, with the engine not running. I do not have any overflow problems so I guess the pump is worn out and needs replacing. It is located under the car near the the rear axle . My question is how do I shut the fuel line off so that fuel doesn't flow out when I disconnect the fuel line from the pump, remembering that the fuel line connects at the bottom of the tank in a TD.

Second question.

Where do I jack up the entire rear of the car with a floor jack, so I can put jack stands under the frame of the car and hold it up.? Also same question for the front of the car? I want to be careful and not damage this wonderful beast.

You may not have an S.U. pump. Most aftermarket pumps are continuous duty rather than on demand as is the S.U. If that's the case and the car runs well, don't replace it. The normal position for the S.U. is on the firewall on a TD. Just siphon the fuel out if you feel you must remove the fuel line, or use the pump to pump the fuel into a suitable container.

I jack up the differential and place the stands under the frame just in front of the forward spring perches.

David - George is correct, it sounds like you have one of those little square, run all the time, make a lot of noise pumps. Unless you want to put an original type SU pump back on the firewall, then just leave this pump in place untill it fails. Other than the noise, these are good pumps that will serve you for a long time. If you do decide to put an original SU pump on the firewall, then just put a switch in series with the pump that you now have so it can be turned off and on and leave it in place as a back up. Good luck - Dave
