MG TD TF 1500 - fuel pump points

I need to replace the pitted points in my fuel pump. It has the single point model. Is there any advantage to the duel point model moss sells and can they be used in a fuel pump which presently has the single contact points?

Russ - Either the single or the dual points work fine, but they are adjusted diffeerently that the procedure given in the shop manual. First, adjust the diaphragm depth with the upper (stationary points) removed. Screw the diaphragm in untill pushing on it does not cause the lower trunion to flip over, then back the diaphragm out one screw hole at a time until the trunion will just flip over when the diaphragm is pushed in, then turn the diaphragm our an additional 4 screw holes. Now reinstall teh upper points and adjust the upper tang on the lower trunion until the end of the spring for the upper points is 0.035" above the top of the pedestal. Finally adjust the lower tang on the trunion, while holding it up as far as it will go, until you have between 0.070" - 0.090". If you will e-mail me, I'll send you a procedure with pictures, taken from the Burlen Fuel Systems work shop manual on assembly and adjustment of the pumps. Good luck - Dave
