MG TD TF 1500 - EXHAUST MANIFOLD COVER

There is a TD on EBay,,# 110737481547 what is the cover on the exhaust manifold?????

Steve - it's a split cast iron exhaust manifold for dual pipes - what looks like a cover is actually the outer manifold for the two middle cylinders. A couple of companies made them in the 50's for XPAG engines. I have one on my MG Wall 'o Speed, made by Solt - the one on eBay is by different manufacturer.

I think Douglas made the one on eBay.

Yup,,, a Douglas,,,the surface looks a lot cleaner than the rest of the manifold,,,
Thanks for the learnin'

Is it just me or does everyone who has and old MG thinks the starting bid on these things is worth what they think it is worth. To me this is a 3 maybe 4 grander at the most. Cost to bring it back to life is over 15K and thats if you do it yourself.

Maybe he saw what the one with unidentfied 6 cyc flathead went for? (Over $7k)
Honestly after seeing that if this one was in my garage I would seriously consider doing the same thing.
Fee-bay is a bazzzar place!
Point in case:
Went to use my timming light the other day and it was dead. Harbor freight had one for $25.00 ...looked on feebay and found the same one for $81.00. The picture on his ad was coppied directly from the HF site. For the heck of it clicked on "other listings". The guy had coppied half the pic's (and descriptions) from HF and listed them at 4 times the cost for his "on-line" store. Not a bad racket if you live a few blocks from a HF store! He's a "power seller"...as in more power to him!

Here are some photos of the Douglas split exhaust manifold for a TD.

I would like to do that to my car. I think Dual Exhaust would be neat on a TD.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

I would love to have twin exhausts on my TD too Tom, but not possible on a RHD. Steering, frame and starter make it too crowded.

For those who may not have seen the dual exhaust set up for my '54 TF, you can go to my web-page, 54mgtf.blogspot.com. Scroll down on the right hand column to February (2011) and then click on "DUAL EXHAUST AND MUFFLER SYSTEM INSTALLED" to view.

Unknown to me when I purchased said TF, the PO had installed the dual exhaust manifolds at sometime in the TF life. This PO was the original owner. This was one of the few pleasant surprises I found when the TF arrived from Georgia (yes, a "fee-bay purchase).

By the way, this month marks the third anniversary of the TF's arrival.

I inadvertently put the "54" in the wrong location. Sorry 'bout that -- John
