MG TD TF 1500 - Book: The Red Car

Does anyone know of a book "The Red Car" and the author? I guess it's about a kid who restores a T type MG then goes out on his first date, dents the car, maybe gets laid (?) and all ends well. I'd like to find a copy. When I was 20 and engaged to be married in 1965 I retored an mgtf. A year later my 15 year old little brother restored his TF. I think the book is about him and I'd like to find him a copy.

BTW my project was fully apart in boxes, cost $350, and when it was finished I had all the parts and nothing extra. A real miricle for a nieve kid.

Sure. It was written by Don Stanford who also wrote "The Slaughtered Lovelies" also featuring an early MG.

It was used extensively in schools, so it exists in numerous hardback and paperback versions. Since it was used in schools, there is vistually no references to the hero's sexual exploits, however, it's still a good read.

It often shows up on ebay, but can also be purchased from motoring booksellers such a T.E. Warth (http://www.abebooks.com/home/TEW/).

I found the book. It's by Don Sanford first published in 1954 and is about a kid restoring a TC. Search under abebooks.com

Lew - Thank you for the information on "The Slaughtered Lovelies" by Don Stanford. I am looking across the room at our bookshelves that contain "The Red Car" and "Ski Town", also by Don Stanford and also featuring an MG (and the same young hero from the Red Car). I wonder how many other books by Don Stanford and featuring MGs are out there. Cheers - Dave

Check alibris.com They are a used book seller on the web.
Last time I looked they had about 5 or 6 copies. If they don't, they will find it for you.

Great web site. I have yet to confound them on a book search. Prices are resonable. service great.

D. Clark,
I recently purchased a new hard bound copy from Amazon.com for around $30.00.

Great tip on Alibris.com! I had "The Red Car" & "The Slaughtered Lovelies" but did not know he had a sequel to "The Red Car", it's now on it's way to my abode! Good reading as the driving season winds down here in the northeast.
