MG TD TF 1500 - An electric car by Lucas???

I wish I could take credit for this, but I can't.

UKs Lucas Ltd. to Build Electric Car

One of the United Kingdoms most enduring brands will proceed with
plans to build the quintessentially British electric vehicle. Lucas,
the world leader in faulty electrical components, has determined after
decades of deliberation to finally push ahead with plans for an
electric vehicle wholly of its own design.

The Lucas electric car, to be called the Prince in homage to the
companys founder, Joseph Lucas, who died in 1902, taking with him to
the grave his secrets of how to make working electrical parts. Since
that time, the company has been awarded more wisecracks than any other.

Lucas has led in many important innovations since, counting the
first intermittent windshield wipers, the first self-dimming
headlights, and the first anti-theft starter interrupt devices among
its several inventions. The company has also long extolled safe driving
practices, as exemplified by its motto: get home before dark.
Lucass EV will be based on a design originally conceived in 1968.
The company had intended to build the EV in the 1970s but the plans
were thought destroyed when the companys then-chief engineers car
caught fire. The blueprints were recently rediscovered in fine shape in
a back room, after having been overlooked for decades due to poor
lighting.

Good one!

Very interesting Geoff; I think that some of these innovations were unintentional...the wipers on my TD are intermittent and my lights self dim (whenever they get the urge), AND I challenge any thief to get my car started in a hurry!!

We all hailed the invention of the diode: a simple, cheap way to restrict current flow to one direction only. Yet we have failed to give due credit to Joe Lucas for his invention of the bullet connector: that ingenious device that restricts (or blocks altogether) current flow in EITHER direction. Granted, there are some reliability problems with the bullet connector: some of them go for tens of miles without restricting current flow at all. But hey folks, this is cutting-edge technology here. We've only been at this for 85-90 years. Lucas only needs time. And now that British cars are gone, field test work is limited to commercial airplanes. Let's be reasonable in our expectations!

Incidentally, I just found on "the google" a power window conversion" for the MG TD. ' Wonder how it works. I could get interested in that!

Hey, I left the doors open on my TD today when I went in the house for lunch. Wouldn't you know it; when I returned to the shop, my battery was dead. Should I have closed the doors?

You mean these are not stock....????

gblawson(gordon)

Gordon,

Aha! You have power side-curtains on your TD. But not to be confused with power windows...

This evening, I closed the doors on my TD before going in for dinner. When I returned, the battery was fine. Go figure! ' Guess it's the old refrigerator question - does the light go off when the door is closed?

Allen; Perhaps the battery's available voltage leaks out over the door thresholds when the door is not in place to retain it? Try it with the bonnet open and the doors closed-there may be a lesson to be learned here. Dan

Allen,
Evedently the answer is "yes".
Left the door open on the TF today whilst cleanning the garage today...same thing battery went dead!
REALLY!
I suspect problem with the computer.

YA GOTIT ALL RONG.
IT'S THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE WHEEL IS LOOSE AND THE ELECTROLYTES ARE LEAKING.
SANDY SANDERS

Gordon, Where did you hide the sub-woofer and the 6 disc cd changer?? In the trunk with the remote release??
Steven Tobias

Sandy,
Does LUCAS make "ELECTROLYTE DEPENDS" ???

Steve,
I think Gords CD is in his armrest and sub is under the hub cab on spare wheel.
(Trunk has cooler for OSH....?)
