MG TD TF 1500 - after researching...

okay, after doing a little researh i see, as i suspected, the 1 1/2" carbs use the 1 1/2" manifold, and i see the TD MkII and the TF used the H4's.. but i don't have an answer for my other question...will the 1 1/2" manifold bolt on to my large valve head? thanks again. tom

Tom, the 1 1/2 inch manifold I have will bolt onto the large valve head.

thanks dennis. to make this change will i need the bulge in the bonnet like the MKII's ??? tom

Tom, I have the bump out in my bonnet side panel. But, I think some people have been able to fit the larger carbs by not using the thick spacers between the carb and the manifold and by using flat flters. Reducing the spacer thickness may affect "vapor lock".

dennis, thanks for your note.i have the blocks, but have you seen anyone fit H4 carbs to a TD with the original TD oil bath filter? tom

The H4 carbies on the MkII DO stick out more and IT did not have spacers, just gaskets, so, the bulge was needed if you used the stock air filter. Some of the pancakes will fit I THINK but don't bet the ranch. Just about any body shop could put that bulge in for you, however. I put 1/4" spacers in and it moved my pancakes enough to push hard into the bonnet, so, I first cut down the pancake then replaced with my own design.

Tom, from memory, the early Mark II's used the standard oil filter but later models had a larger unit. I might be concerned about restricting the air flow with the old unit. Also, forgot that some people have reported using the tapered SU filters from MGB's (74 1/2 year model). I plan to go to some tapered K&N's in the future.
