MG TD TF 1500 - ACTUAL CC displacement TF

The l954 mgtf which I recently acquired has its original XPAG engine but shows "TF1500" insignia on bonnet sides but in the wrong location (obviously added by a previous owner). Question is to what displacement can the XPAG engine be bored, and what method can be used to determine the actual displacement? It is my feeling that the engine has been reworked since it is VERY peppy and leaves a little rubber even in 2nd gear. Thoughts?

XPAG bore at standard is 66mm for 1250cc

XPEG bore at standard is 72mm for 1460cc

The maximum overbore recommended by the factory is 120 thou. for XPAG although some have managed to go larger, but there is no safety without sleeving.

Hope this helps,

Paul.

According to the original MG midget Series TF Operation Manual on page 4, the bore (of the XPAG)is 66.5mm, and the stroke is 90mm or 312.59 cc per cylinder, or more precisly, 1250.361 cc for the 4 cylinders.

Paul is right on! If you're gong to sleeve, remember one of the cardinal rules:- a thinner cylinder wall, results in reduced structural integrity of the block, so don't take chances with anything over 100 thou.
