MG TD TF 1500 - A great book on electrical systems

Those of you with MGBs and some I have written to, know about Rick Astleys' first book, The Essential Manual MGB Electrical Systems. Because of the way it was written, I recommended this book even to those with T series cars. Well Rick has just recently had another book published. It is The Essential Manual Classic British Car Electrical Systems. This book, while it isn't specific to the T series MGs, covers British classics equipped with Lucas, Smiths Industry & SU components. I just received this book as a Christmas gift and although I have not read it completely yet, just in thumbing through it, I have found it to be every bit as informative and easy to understand as Rick's previous book. Well worth the investment and destined to become another 'must have' book for T series owners. It also has a drop dead gorgeous Morris Minor Traveler on the cover. Cheers - Dave

Dave,
Do you know where it can be purchased? Thanks and have a good day!

David, what level of expertise in electricity does it assume (volts, amps, all that stuff)? Would a novice like me be able to follow it?

Fyi, I just checked Amazon and found only the MGB book, not the new one Dave got. Searching his name you will find lots of music from some other guy(?). It did have a chapter on basic elec. theory but you can't read it on line.

Rick is member and president of our Windsor Detroit MG Csr Club.
This is a great book to have if you have a B Type, but much of the info is related to most MG.s
I think he also has a new book in the works, again on elec.systems.

I will call him and get a line on a supplier who has them is stock. Or you all might try Alibris.com the best source for books in N. America,

No problem, just call it an early Christmas present for 2010 ;-)

Ed - the really great thing about the books on electrical systems that Rick writes, is that they don't require any knowledge of electrical theory or higher math (you know, the stuff where one has to take their socks off to do the calculations or worse risk arrest of indecent exposure). The books are really great for the layman and even for those who have worked with the stuff so long we are brain dead. Cheers - Dave

Spoke with Rick and he told me that Amazon should have them in stock at a discount price. This book just won an award in the UK for one of the best motor books of the year which might account for a short supply.
We don't buy the book, we just call Rick.

Dave, that link didn't work. This time I just googled the title and it shows up on both Amazon & Barnes & Noble. Go figure?? Order placed, thanks for the tip.

Ed - That link worked great last night when I posted it, but this morning it times out before connection is made. Collin may be right about demand. Cheers - Dave

I don't want to be a grinch, but my copy of Rick's MGB Electrical Systems if full of Typos. While the book is very useful, the typos cause me to verify everything befor I apply the knowledge, which can be tedious. I'm going to wait until the new book has been out for a while (like the second printing) to order it.

warmly,
dave

I have not read through the book to see if it has the same typos as the MGB Electrical Systems did, although the same misinformation about the fuel pump is in this book. I still feel that the book is a good investment for the layman in electrical systems. Cheers - Dave

Dave D Could you share the miss-info about fuel pumps. I have both books.

amazon just sent a note my book has shipped. regards, tom

Larry - I would like to discuss the information with Rick before publishing anything on one of the Bulletin Boards or Forums. The thing I see as wrong is not anything that is a danger to drivers, but rather it is just some misconceptions. Cheers - Dave
