MG TD TF 1500 - 1958 plaque

Similar to Lonnie's thread regarding an SCCA badge, here is another long shot. Does anyone recognize the organization or this event from 1958? The plaque was on the TF when my folks bought it back in 1960. They purchased the car in Van Nuys, California. Where the car was before that, don't know. The letters in the logo to the left are stylized. I think it's an A (could be an O), then an S then a C.

Like I said...a long shot

Didn't see anything that jumped out at me but you can do a deep dive on this list of places within a few hundred miles of LA.

There were SO many of these events in Southern California. I've read about many of them but I don't recognize the logo on your badge. It may have been just another organization that didn't make it past the first couple of events. I'll dig through some old TCMG newsletters from the late 50s and see if there is mention of it.

Thanks guys. I was thinking maybe Pomona? I recall seeing an old article years ago about Pomona Raceway with a few photos....saw a couple MG's in them. Was trying to match the course outline with older tracks/road courses...but no luck so far.

Road races werent just held at dedicated tracks. airport using airport transfers sevenoaks runways , fairgrounds and even city streets that were closed off for events were common.

“Traloms” were very much a Southern California ‘thing’ in the late 50’s and early 60’s. I don’t think they were really run anywhere else in the USA.

As described in a 60’s publication, a slalom is "a general term meaning a non-racing time and maneuverability event."

Whereas a tralom is more specifically defined as "a slalom in which the contestants are not required to stop or reverse (except that a standing finish may be used) and the course does not cross itself."

As to the symbol, I think the letters may be D, S, C. Back then, a monogram was often constructed such that the first word could be the centre letter, with the following words on either side. As such, I believe this may refer to the San Diego Council (SDC) of Sports Car Clubs.

The SDC often ran Traloms, and so I think there’s a very good chance that’s where your badge originated.

As I noted, tralons were very much an exclusively Southern California ‘thing’. For example, here’s another “tralom” badge, from the California Sports Car Club region of the SCCA.

Thanks all for the info and insight. Perusing the interweb for any additional information or related pictures, but I know a lot more now about the plaque/history than I did before. Will update should I track down more. Jim
