MG MGF Technical - Who the hell designed it?

I have just replaced the window stops on my F- yes it now sports the series 3 version - four hours of mucking about like a six foot contorsionist. This has to be the worst design ever. Who in their right mind would ask you to slide an allen key up the outside of the lowered window while entering through a not very large hole and then tighten it while holding the near side with an open faced spanner.

My hands were twisted and sore and still the blooody thing was loose. Why can't we have it the other way around? It would be easier to capture the far side with a spanner while using an allen key on the near side. The MG Rover bulletin suggests .4 of an hour per window. They must employ childre with very small hands and the bendability of gymnast.

What a waste of a Saturday.

you could of course have put the car into the MGRover dealer and paid the 2 x 0.4 hours for them to do it...

Just keeping a great tradition:

You were lucky, on the midget there is an nut which holds the door cappings, it requires a 8mm box spanner, but you can only turn 1/2 a flat at a time, so for each 'turn' you have to withdraw the spanner and turn it over!

LOL !
David, I think the MK2 never got 'designed' for this use, but someone at the factory just found any redundant mold tool set and suggested using it.

Dieter - unlike you to make a mistake! The part in question is Mk3 - first was yellow plastic, next was black plastic (or the other way round) then comes the nut and bolt thingy.

Boohooo!! shame on me :)

Err, I see retirement is a great refresh for old petrolheads ...
You need to educate me on that 'how-to' if we meet the next.

Dieter, you seem to be missing an eye ;-)

... indeed.
This is part of the 'trick' to convince retirement instututions to say:

Dooh, a half blind bloke ? He should retire !!

I fear I'll need a lot more of such tricks
:(
