MG MGF Technical - Whiring from back of dash?

Got an intermittent rattly whirring noise behind the rev counter / speed dial of my '97 (R) 1.8mpi. Sounds like a loose metal casing on a turning cable, I've no idea what's actually behind there I'm just guessing at the moment. Has anybody had a similar problem or had any experience of getting to the rear of unit? I'm guessing it's gonna be a nightmare to get to (removing steering wheel, airbag wiring, etc?).

Is it a job for the MGR dealer or am I being pessimistic again?

Cheers!

Hmmmmm, could be a good excuse for a leather steering wheel!

Sounds like the speedo cable. It may only need to be moved slightly to stop this.
