MG MGF Technical - Wheel Sizes

Hello all.

This might seem like a really dumb question but can I fit 16 inch or 17 inch wheels to my 1996 1.8i?

At the moment it has the original 15 inch wheels but they are beginning to look a bit sorry for themselves and I would like to replace them. Will changing the wheel size affect anything else?

Thanks.
Keith

Several postings on this issue within the BBS. Standard upgrade for a F is to move to the trophy 160 16". Some even available from members of the BBS if not already sold. Otherwise, Mike Satur has 17" trophy's fitted with Toyo's for a more than reasonable price! ; )

For a full list (and highly comprehensive) of wheel options for your F try Erik's website http://www.mgtf.be or try your luck on ebay!

All of the 16" MGF or TF wheel range will fit, with no immediate issues. If you plan at some point to fit larger brakes then the multispoke Trophy / TF160 style have the best clearance. Not much in the way of 17" wheels available in the correct fitment/dimensions, but Mike Satur does an adapter to allow other fitments.

I'd recommend having 4 wheel alignment done after the swap.

No disagreement from me here: as Mike says, any wheel from any model of MGF or TF can be fitted to any other model of MGF/TF - be that 15 or 16" The only exception being, as Mike says, where the AP racing brakes are fitted, wherein you have to fit 11-spoke Trophy/ TF160 wheels.

The offset on the 16" wheels is 28mm. Be aware if you are fitting 17" wheels that you need to fit a wheel with an appropriate offset - and factor in the width of the PCD adapter as necessary.

PCD/ centre bore/ offset terms defined here (along with listing of the standard MG wheel options, of which there is a now bewildering selection!) - http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/wheel_options_for_the_mgf.htm
