MG MGF Technical - waterproof filter?

Hi,
I use a BMC Twin-air filter in my VVC and have recently installed a cold air pipe from under the car. But now I am worried that in the rain not only air but also water could be blown directly onto the filter and into the engine which surely wouldn't do it any good. Should I remove the pipe again or are my fears totally unfounded?

All us K&N fans have a similar setup and I have not heard of anyone getting water into their engine.

Perhaps not totally unfounded, but extremely unlikely. K&N filters (which are constructed in an identical fashion to BMCs- K&N claim that BMC copied them!) are used on JetSkis, so they must be highly water resistant!

I've driven through deep fords before now with the 57i kit fitted, and water has never entered the engine as a result.

Conclusion- not much to worry about!

Cheers

Reminds me of the time, many years ago, when I had a Viva HA. Somehow water got into the air intake and soaked the paper filter element, so that no air could get through. I had to dry the filter element out in front of a log fire before I could drive home.

Thanks for your answers, I feel a lot better now and will leave the pipes where they are (I like my construction a lot :))) )

Ahmmm, just only kidding :)

Rob,
isn't that from Ralf an inspiration for an artist ?
