MG MGF Technical - vvc problems!! help??

Just had head done on my vvc! i ve put it all back together and it now miss fires on 3 and 4! someones told me there bitches to set up! any advice or cam set up information?? thank
jonny

Some new HT leads are quite a good idea if you've disturbed them by removing the head.

I've seen a VVC that had its HG replaced, and IT missfired. Fitting new leads and it was fine.

If you're concerned about the VVC mechanism alignment, it might be worth talking to MS (or even taking it to him as I don't think you're too far away!). He reassembled the VVC unit onto the cam carrier before shipping it back...

(expecting a problem when the cam carrier was off mine, I bought some new leads for it!)

thanks for advice but its had a new set of 8.5mm magnecore leads! im sure its the vvc unit which is set up wrong! i ve booked it in at rover to be plugged in. hope it shows the fault and is easily solved!!

Sorry, you hadn't said that :-)

As I said, its "tricky" to get the VVC unit set up properly. Mine was shipped off to Mike Satur, who returned it ready-assembled in the cam carrier. From the magazine pictures of the operation, it looks like a special jig is required. He also said that it was "nearly impossible" to refit the VVC unit when the cam/cam carrier were attached to the engine...

Another (simple) possibility is that the electrical connections to the VVC solonoid are the wrong way round. There are blue, black and brown plugs, and the blue and black are the same shape so can be got wrong. I think (will see if I've still got my notes at work) the blue one is on the left...

Jonny,

It's not something as daft and simple as leads 3 and 4 connected the wrong way round is it?
