MG MGF Technical - TF160 - High Level Brake Light

Does anyone know a stockist for the high level brake light on a 2002 mgtf160 ?

Mine has a couple of bulbs out - I removed it to investigate replacing the bulbs but it looks like a sealed unit!

I've looked in the archives but they all appear to be about earlier F's

Thanks - Neil

I thought the MGTF brake light had LEDs in with many thousands of hours life? Surprised therefore to hear that a couple have failed.

If its the same as a F one its not a sealed unit Neil, give a gentle tug on the back part when the whole unit is off the car and the back section exposing the row of bulbs will come free. I have two bulbs gone myself and keep meaning to change them.

Unless it is a different unit on the TF ?

It is a very different unit. Shape, fixings and I suspect bulb type as well.

Thanks for putting me right Julian LOL

I've learned something else today !!

Thanks everyone for the advice. It does look like a sealed unit to me but I'll stick a small screwdriver in there & see what happens!!

I also thought it was a LED type light - I'll let you know soon

Quick Update - As suspected it was a sealed unit. Easy to pop the light unit out of the boot lid with some gentle pressure about 2cm in from either end. Any nearer the ends & you'll snap the plastic (guess how I found that out!)

Once it was out close inspection revealed it is sealed & it is an LED type. Why 2 of these should have blown I don't know - The MG Centre tell me they have good quality 2nd hand parts available. However I may just wait until Nanjing start distribution again so I can get a new part at a good price.
