MG MGF Technical - SP Performance Exhaust - pic/thoughts req

Hi All,
I've been given the opportunity to get hold of a SP (aka Miltek???) Performance Twin Pipe.

Just wondered whether anyone has got a picture of the thing? (I've already done a search in the achives) and would like to know what people think of it.

I should be getting hold of a K&N soon enough, and wondered whether this and the SP would be too much, especially volume wise. I like my music too much!! Lol...

Oh, and what sort of price would a second hand one with 1000miles done on it be?

Cheers all and roll on Summer.. damned leaky roof!

Jon.

Some impressions, pix and power graphs can be found on http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/exhaust_menu.htm Jon.

It's a lovely system - you'll enjoy the music from the exhaust! :o)

SP + K&N is not too overwhelming - but removing the cat would be (mentioning no names in particular ;o))

Price for a second hand exhaust is obviously condition dependent, but figure on 50% of new retail - plus or minus depending. So approx 150 quid.

Try http://www.theflow.demon.nl/fab/myf/ should have a picture somewhere. Picture also available at the B&G web site.

Only really visible signs are the DTM style slash cut finishers. When it comes down to Exhaust system it is mopstly a matter of which sound you prefer as difference in power is only very small between them. The SP has a higher pitched jam jar full of bees sort of sound but can be a little harsh and resonent when cold. Personally I prefer the sound as it suits the 16 Valve high reving engine rather that attempting to make it sound like a V8 which is almost impossible to do properly.

All IMO, naturally.

I really like the SP exhaust, my Dad has one on hi 1.8 Abingdon, and it sounds really nice, quite throaty, and of course popping every now and again. I have been after one for my VVC for a few months now, but cant source one. My advice would be to go for it.
WRT the price, as Rob says 50% seems fair, at only 1000 miles its barely carboned in.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I thought I remember somewhere in the distant past someone managed to make a *.wav/*.mp3 file of their F+Mods exhaust note. Thought it a bit odd at the time, but I can now see the appeal.

As I have an exhaust that's popping at the moment, I guess a occasional pop won't be a problem. I'm just a bit concerned at the potential noise this combination might make. K&N + SP= Loud? (See, my math teacher would be proud!)

Cheers,
Jon

Oh, and anyone know how easy it would be for a TOTAL novice to fit? Or would it just be best left for a friendly garage to do the deed? (That's if I can find one!)

I think that's on Scarlet's web Jon

Hi,

yeah, the good old SP ;) Some love it, some hate it.
Once I heard it at Dirkies and Tony's former MGF in 99 I wanted one. 2 years later I had, including a funny german TUV approval ;)

nearly the same as @ Rob.
Very old sound files from Dirk are still anywhere on my site. Converted (badly) from any other compression.

btw. for such historic technical searches, I still recommend the good special design old search engine @ http://www.mgcc.de/mgf/

Phuuuh, just recalled Utrecht meeting with MPG's

Ddraig did a SP session once in Heidelburg motorway Tunnel.

Very pleased with mine! ( Milltek + K&N).
I did fit the cat bypass but found it to much! (Ask my neighbours) Paul Hindle...
PAUL. HINDLE.

Rob

Does the Milltek really make a whaling noise? I can't imagine what the reaction would be driving down the road in an MGF that sounded like a hump back. I have just ordered a Milltek so I really hope it doesn't!
Blue Pocket Rocket

*g*, the best is with the cold engine and then the first few miles .... when taking the foot from the accelerator...

Lovely if you have the garage between high houses ;)

forgive me, but I just found this silly option:

MGF Cup car exhaust in an ebay auction from Belgium. 75 EURO currently with no bid.
See the LH tail pipe coloure on the picture
;)
No gas flow connection to the silence box. Straight way through the RH pipe.

That one is for sure loud.

Roger, try B&G they sell the Miltech exhaust these days

http://www.ukmgparts.com if I remember correctly.
T.E.D.

I found the Milltek a bit too high pitched, my previous Janspeed was nice, deep note, lots of rumble and the occasional pop. My current Daytona 'Lite' from MS sounds a little more refined ...

ROFL - thanks for spotting that typo BPR!!! ;oD

A word of warning - if you see a Japanese ship approaching, don't hang around to see if they're friendly! ;o)
Rob Bell

I only got the poping when the engine was cold, this will happen with or without a performance exhaust it's just that normally you would not hear it.
T.E.D.

Mine pops really well when going downhill, not something you get in Utrecht.

BTW Dieter, my beer belly has now gone, please can you airbrush the pictures;-)
Ddraig

Bloody hell DD dont tell me you have been working for your living!

Or has Sal got you on a diet?

Regards to both of you.

Dd, What about the other bellies? Are you working on those too?

Gaz:

Whats the Daytona 'Lite'? I heard of Daytona but not Daytona 'Lite'? Is this a new version?
Chris

Chris,

I've just called it the 'Daytona Lite' as mike has no name for it apart from the fact that it costs £265+VAT and comes with slashed 3" rolled finishers as opposed to the Daytona which costs £295+VAT and comes with I guess a variety of different. Apparently the only difference is the finishers ...

(still missing the Janspeed ...)

my advice: get the K&N fitted first... enjoy for a while and next fit the SP.
If you're not using your F as a daily car and you aren't rushing through cities, get the cat removed and see if you like it.
english_fantasy

Had the Milltek fitted today to my Trophy 160 by Bell Silencers here in Swindon and they did a very good job. The Milltek is very well made and sounds bloody fantastic especially when the engine hits 4k rpm. Thankfully its not like a hump back at all so no worries there. Throttle response has increased as well. Money well spent.
Blue Pocket Rocket

Hi Blue,

I had the Milltek fitted to my Trophy too, sounds great, I'd recommend the ITG Maxogen filter (carbon airbox of course) to go with it.

You'd be amazed further!
chris

Chris

Will have to wait for the new year for that one but might try and modify the standard one first.
Blue Pocket Rocket

For the record, sound files of my MS Daytona are on the Essex Roadsters website:

Can't give you a direct link though, it uses frames and it isn't my website.
