MG MGF Technical - Petrol Cap lock kaput

Further to my post a week or so back re seizing lock on my petrol cap, tried to fill up this morning only to find couldn't get the key to fully enagage in the lock.

Stupidly I used brute force and consequently bent the key out of shape and caused the silver casing/spring mechanism to "ping" off and land on the chap filling up adjacent to me.

Managed to bend key back into shape, and get the cap off with my front door key, filled up and just managed to lock the cap back on.

Presume the F's petrol cap lock therefore is not matched to the iginition key - best recommendations for getting a spare?

thanks

John, in my haste forgot to add "for less than buying a new one" Had a breaker's yard say they'd do one for £35 - the law of supply and demand in all it's glory following MGR's demise!

All 3 locks are matched on a new car and a new set would be expensive, even if you could get one at present.

Dieter describes a method to change the tumblers in a lock on his website but this is fiddly and you would need a set of needle files. The alternative is to try one of the MGF breakers for a second-hand set of locks. This gives you a chance to see how they come on and off, but you should also check they all use the same key as well.

Some-one will be along soon with the usual list of car breakers and instructions on how the different locks can be removed.

Thanks Chris, Dieter kindly gave the link to his site on my last post - my DIY skills haven't improved since then so it may be cost-effective to buy a new lock after all!
