MG MGF Technical - misfire on acceleration at low revs
can anybody tell me why my mgf misfires on acceleration at low revs. It has just come back from the garage and he cannot find the fault. |

Commonly due to weak spark, which isn't always evident when doing the usual tests. If it's an early F engine (with distributor ignition) then the HT leads are a common weakness. Investment in a set of high quality leads, e.g. magnecor, is often the solution. Also a common mistake to rule out the spark plugs because they 'look' ok - if the spark isn't bright and blue-ish, i.e. red/orange & a bit feeble, they're well past their best and should be renewed. |

And if a MEMS1.9 equipped car with a distributor (non-VVC MGF, pre-2001), then replace the cap and rotor, as failure here gives the symptoms you describe: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/distributor/stuttering.htm |

Could also be noisy throttle pot... for low throttle positions there's no signal (the throttle has opened by the ECU does not recognise this and doesn't add more fuel - hence weak running). Further up the track the signal is good and car runs fine. You can check this on diag machine. A |
