MG MGF Technical - Miltek SS & db

1) Does any body have any db readings for a Miltek (SP) Supersports? I have just fitted a second hand one without the Cat and it is very loud. I'm goign to the Bedford track day next weekend and want to be certain that I won't fail their noice limits?

2) It would be great if we could put together a table giving exhaust backbox, level with cat, level with CRP etc.

Yes I know that manifold, engin size, head work etc would modify the results, but it woudl be a great start point?

3) On the Miltek zorst there is a plate saying MGF01 1998, 50 Miltek. Any idea what the 50 relates to?

Cheers

Steve,

The Miltek is one of the loudest of exhaust. At Goodwood last november the noise limit was 98db (from Memory) a Miltek equipped F passed the noise limit but is did have a CAT.

I don't know if Bedford is drive by or static noise test. If static make sure you raise the rev steadily to the RPM requested (normally 2/3 max). If in doubt stick the CAT back on.

Bedford has a staic & a drive by limit.
I asked Dave L the same question as I had some concerns about my full Janspeed system, but he said it wouldn't be a problem.

Put a post on http://pitlane.mgs-on-track.com/ if your still unsure.

From our exhaust test report that came out in MGW in Feb/March 2000:

@4000rpm 87.0 dB
Driveby 92.0 dB

However, as the Milltek ages, it gets appreciably louder as all the sound deadening 'stuffing' falls out - as Roger Parker demonstrated when he cut his old Milltek exhaust open: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/SP_exhaust_1.jpg

Would recommend as well. I think the Catalyst takes off 1.5dB or more.

I have a SP and at goodwood it did pass but apparently right on the limit but dont beleive this was correct as results where mixed with std cars getting over 90db.

Once on the track I had no problems as they have drive through sensors around the track. I do however have a cat.

Hmm, look like the CAT goes back on at the weekend.

Prior to the Miltek I was running the std zorst with a CRP, the sound was a pleasing improvement. Not huge but certainly better that the std set-up.

Rob, any chance of posting the results of the exhaust test report that were in MGW for those of us that missed it. Your existing zorst pages are a great source of info and this addition stuff would add to that.

With regard to question 3 any ideas?

Cheers

Wilco Steve - that issue of the mag was completely sold out - and that was 4 years ago! Not much chance of being able to obtain a copy now...

Regarding question 3 - no idea what '50' means - anyone?
