MG MGF Technical - K&N panel filter

can sombody please tell me the size of the original panel filter for a 98 vvc . ive had a K&N panel filter from ebay and its 2 sizes to big .. the part number is 33-2132. which is correct for the year.
also the same number is stamped on the filter its self..
alex

The correct filter for a pre-2000MY MGF is 33-2647 Alex. It should be as cheap as chips :o)

Would the 33-2647 fit a Trophy 160?

Thanks

David

No it won't fit. Not sure if K&N do a filter for the Trophy 160 yet. I purchased a Green filter which is virtually identical to a K&N.
Blue Pocket Rocket

its really strange ive just checked the sizes on k&ns web site and they say 33-2132 is the right one??????. 95-2001 mgf vvc strange that.. the size is 145mm x 395mm ..thats massive..
alex

I went through all this when ordering my K&N panel, spoke to the guy at K&N office in Warrington, rang just about every MGF specialist.
Upshot - ignore what K&N and their calalogue say. Give Moss a bell tell them you want a K&N for whatever model you have, and they'll send you the right one, about 30 quid if I recall.
g hampson

its really done my head in this.. will take robs (the mgf guru) advice on this one.. had the day off to fit it as well... on the bloody phone to em all today..
alex

PS
Sorry the code of the filter I got, and which fits like a hand in a glove - 33-2647.

The K&N reff'ed item - 33-2132 has, and I quote the guy at K&N "Had some negative feedback, on it's application with the MGF"
g hampson

33-2132 looks like it should fit a sherman tank...
alex

LOL Alex!

David, as BPR says, 33-2647 will not fit the later, post 2001 airbox, which is dimensionally larger than the earlier version. I haven't seen any one posting any confirmation on K&N filters for the later cars - which means everyone goes the Green filter route.

Rob

Thanks for that. It looks like I've got the wrong one then!

Anyone want to buy a 33-2647, new and unopened, for £24.99 inc. postage to a UK address?

David

Can anybody recommend a good supplier for Green air filters?

Thanks

David

There may be some recommendations in the archives David - it's worth a look. I haven't used Green, so can't recommend a supplier, sorry.

if it's any help, here is the reference number from the archive

I just saw on their website that Green (www.greenfilters.com) now have a replacement panel filter for the TF, beating K&N to it! Part number is P950375.

I have no experience of Green filters, but I suppose that they are equivalent to the K&Ns, since they are made according to the same principles (i.e. cotton gauze sandwiched between two layers of steel mesh).

D'oh!

Just realised you're after a filter for a 98 vvc, in which case the Green Filter number is: P484394

Sorry, got too carried away with the one that fits my car!
mike roberts

Wow... four years already since I posted that information... time flies... ;-)

Anyway, I have been using that green filter ever since, and I am very happy with it!

K&N filter now sold via fleabay. Thanks for all the advice. Hunt is on for a Green supplier locally.
