I would go for the gen 1, it works perfectly fine and I suspect is cheaper, so there is no point paying more for no more performance ;)

I believe that the Gen II comes with a heat shield, so it may produce a bit more power than the Gen I. However, if you are going the flowerpot or 820i route the Gen I is the one to have.

There is aso the Apollo from K&N. This is a closed induction system priced at around 170. I don't know if they have a kit for the F/TF.

Is the genII actually available for the F? A heat shield does have benefits - but as Ralph says, the best results are to be had by enclosing the filter in an airbox to completely isolate it from engine bay heat. This being the case, it is pointless paying the extra for a piece of bent metal that you're not going to use...

If you go for the K&N gen 1 (maybe gen 2) it is worth investing in one of my brackets to hold the pipes in place under the car.

I have plenty left and am selling them for £12 which includes P&P. The kit comes with fixings and instructions. email for more info.
