MG MGF Technical - Immobilizer problems

Hello,
I have a starting/ignition/immobilizer problem with my 1997 MGF. The remote for the alarm system seems to work fine. When the key is in the ignition, and when turned and the signal for the activatad immobilizer sounds (as it is supposed to), pressing either of the buttons on the remote deactivates the immobilizer (also as supposed). When I therafter turn the key to start the engine NOTHING happens! Does anyone have any idea what this is due to? I have tried to reset the immobilizer by entering the key number through the door lock, as instructed in the manual, I do get the brief horn signal as a confirmation of the reset, but that doesn't do the trick. Help is much appreciated since the Swedish summer just doesn't last for very long...

>starter engine blocking
>starter engine fuse blown

1. check fuse of starter engine (under steering wheel, dunno what fuse exactly) My brother had this a few times

2. use an umbrella, knock on the starter engine (engine bay) & try again (I had this)

3. clean connections or replace >HT leads<
(I had this)

In my *F* (and my books) pressing the unlock button works pressing the lock button does not in this situation.

David,
Having knocked the starter motor etc next ensure that the starter system is operative by checking the connections on the starter motor especially the small wire to the solenoid. This has been a problem on mine.

On my car the number supplied for 'keying' in via the door lock was incorrect. If you can get an agent to apply a Test Book, check the number ( and the fault!)

Sorry, should also have said that if you can hear a click from behind the dash when you turn the key then the problem is most likely to be your starter motor or wiring. Hope all this helps.
