MG MGF Technical - Horn has packed up

The Horn has packed up on my 53 plate TF. The fuse is ok because the windows still work and the horn works if connected direct to the battery> Any thoughts? My next guess is the contacts in the steering wheel but Im loathed to fiddle around the air bag. Has anyone else had this problem
Thanks
MW Gee

The horn is operated either thru the rotory coupler or the Alarm.
Set the alarm, open the boot and pull the bonnet lever. If the horn sounds, then it is the coupler circuit giving the problem.

I had the same problem on my F'. I hadnt noticed that one had packed up a couple of years ago and all it was ...was that the horns had just "died". Replacing the two (quite cheap) from Sussex Classic Car Parts solved the problem.

And there's indeed no option to repair a corroded horn.

Prevent it from water ingress and bend the _trumpet-part_ downwards when installed.

Roger Parker had a perfect solution to a non-operational horn. Whollop it with a wood-faced hammer, and then adjust the adjuster screw (if present - newer horns don't have them). This is usually all that's required, assuming this isn't a failure of the rotary coupler, which IMO is a rare problem. :o)

<the horn works if connected direct to the battery>!!!!
suggests that it is a circuit problem.

it's very common for the spade to pick up some corrosion, try running some emery cloth over the horn spade and up inside the one on the loom
Will Munns

If the horn does not sound on the alarm, then look for a problem between the relay and the horn.
If the horn does sound, then look for a problem between the wheel horn buttons and the relay..
