MG MGF Technical - High Revs Problem

Dear all, thanks for all your help. Appreciated. The revs have now gone down when just starting the car. But now if I start driving, it sometimes goes up, especially between the gear, shifting 2nd to 3rd. When just starting the car, I have around 1100 rpm, but sometimes as said when driving, I feel that the revs do not go down, it stays up, so it sounds that I am about to take my drivers Licence or driving with very big shoes. Anyhow, with the ITG airbox and new TB 52mm ....... The sounds is perfect and the responsiveness is even better. well worth the money. But I will be more happy if the rev problem will be solved.

Cheers

Throttle sensor miss aligned?
I think someone has mentioned this in the other thread already. Possibly Dieter.

Someone sure knows how to fix this... come help!

I got my K&N and TB52mm done with no probs.

Dieter mentioned in another thread that slackening off the throttle cable slightly can help, as the throttle may not be closing fully at the moment. Certainly worth a try.

Also, reset MEMS after performing this upgrade to help it adjust to the new set up (I think this is ignition on and depress the accelerator 5 times.)

Had a similar problem, with even higher revving, caused by a failure in the Idle Air control valve. This device allows air to bypass the throttle butterfly for cold starting, and also on overrun to decrease emissions. Failure causes it to stick open, causing higher revving.
If slackening the throttle cable dosn't work, sometimes the valve can be cleaned with carby cleaner. If that dosn't work, it may have to be replaced. I made a temporary fix by extending and diverting the throttle bypass hose through a gate valve, closing it down so I could get cold starting, but the over rev problem wasn't as bad. This fix also improves driveability, as the throttle returns to idle much faster, enabling faster, smoother gearchanges.
