MG MGF Technical - High level brake light and coolant.

Morning all,

Two quick questions:

1.My high level brake light has suddenly stopped coming on - I've checked all the fuses and they're fine - anyone else had this? The other two brake lights are fine.

2.What coolant do I need to buy from somewhere like halfords? Mine looks green when I look in the tank.

Cheers

Are you changing the coolant or just topping up?
Blue Pocket Rocket

Hi BPR,

Just topping up a little bit.

Chris - regarding the HLBL, suspect a broken wire (especially in the harness adjacent to the hinge) or a poor earth.

It may also be worth your while removing the HLBL and checking the loom connector - cleaning as required.

Rob,

Cheers, I'll take a look in the morning. I just happened to notice it when I put the brakes on in front of a lorry yesterday and the HLBL didn't light up in the reflection. To be honest I may not have time to fix it as Velma is on eBay at the moment looking to be soon parted from me :-(

Cheers

Any news on the coolant type yet... I'll be nipping to halfords at lunch :-)

If it's green, it's the non-OAT stuff. Most likely Unipart Superfreeze 3 (if I recall the name correctly).

Usually one wouldn't recommend mixing brands of antifreeze - more out of precaution rather than anything - but if you are desparate, then any Halfrauds brand glycol antifreeze will do the trick :o)
Rob Bell

Rob and others,

Bought the type you suggested - non-OAT... opened it today and its blue in the bottle... is this right?

Cheers

If you are just "topping up" a bit of neat water won't dilute the coolant by any significant amount so you could just do that and save worry about mixing types - otherwise you may have a trip to you favorite dealer again for the green stuff!
