MG MGF Technical - External temperature sensor : best place ?

I bought an external temperature sensor last week-end and I'm now wondering about where fitting it.

There's a small "screen" which indicates the in / out temperature. I'll fit it on the dashboard near the steering wheel. There's a thin wire about 3 or 4 meters at the end of which you can find the sensor. I thought about sticking it inside the door or under the front bonnet.

Any idea about the best place for this sensor to be placed ?

To Dieter :

Did you order the temp sensor that display on the RDS radio screen ?
That system looks interresting, if it's working ...

ROFL..
Fabrice ... shall I add it to the splitter bulk ?:)
A swiss chap (Cyril W.) purchased it for DM99. I await his report.

I can't recommend a 'best place' but led the sensor wire of my recent cheap standard thingy only from the left side of the steering whell (LHD!) to the door and then along the gap between upper side of the wheelhouse to the frontbonnet.
Glued it anywhere on a deap and hopefully dry place near the LH headlight.
I would not recommend a place inside the bonnet or near the front cooler.

Later if I get this RDS addon I'll lead the temp. sensor through any rubber under the steeering in the footwell. This later because the wire is thin then and has not fixed the sensor like at the recent scheap thing.

This RDS stuff seems a little complicated for me ! I prefer starting with the "cheap thing" even if it's not the most elegant !

Dieter, how do you lead the wire from the cockpit to the front bonnet ? Is there a hole somewhere behind the dashboard ?

>> near the LH headlight.
Don't you think the headlight is bringing some heat when lights are on ?

I was thinking of gluing the sensor inside the driver's door, behind the window (when down), but I'm afraid there's not enough "flying air' around it.

Does anybody know where temperature sensors are placed generally in other cars ?

Jerome,
open the bonnet and you'll see that large rubber near the fusebox. Or remove the wiper cover, there are some more rubber sealings where its possible to lead a small wire 'through the wall'. But take care, make only a small hole and seal it after slipping the wire.
Anyway, you need to cut the temp sensor of this cheap gauges and re-clamp it then.

I did not use that professional way recently, but only led the wire simply horizontal to the left, outside of the compartmentromm ... and closed the door. :)
so its clamped unprofessional between door and door sealing.

... position of sensor... glued 'near' the headlight, not on the headlight. ;-)
Anyway not worth to make a photo for a webside .. recently. ;-))

Dieter,

Thanks for the explaination !

I can't believe it ! Is it the way you did it ? ;-) Not very serious a job !

>>Anyway, you need to cut the temp sensor of this cheap gauges and re-clamp it then.

I'll have to use what we call in French a "domino", a piece of plastic with 2 brackets to connect to pieces of cable.

I hope I'll have the time to do that before Summer ......

Normally these sensors are placed in the shadow of a panel so that windchill and other severe factors can't have such an influence.
