MG MGF Technical - Changing Dial Faces

Has anyone changed the dials (tachometer/odometer/fuel/water temp) in their MGF/TF. I really don't like the ones in my Trophy 160, and have had some new ones designed, incorporating the Trophy 160 logo and a couple of other little changes. The prototypes were delivered to my house last night, but upon taking to the car with a screwdriver, I noticed a couple of problems:
1) I can't seem to disconnect the electric mirror/dash rheostat controls from the plastic trim
2) I can't get the instument cluster out of the binnacle without (it seems) removing the steering wheel
3) The instrument cluster appears, at first glance, to be a sealed unit.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The instrument cluster is indeed sealed from the front Paul :o(

I don't know whether you can gain access to the instrument faces from behind though - if not, then you'll be forced to undo the plastic welding of the plastic anti-glare screen.

Look forward to seeing your designs though :o))

If you need instructions for removing the steering wheel, Email me and i'll send them through.

The SP Cheetah had custom instrument faces so it is possible. How they did it however is another matter.

Are you sure the window is sealed Rob, I have the manual, of which I have now sent instructions for removal to Paul, and it states Service Repair Instrument Pack Window no. 88.20.06, four clips secure window and it has a picture of the window removed from the chassis.
Chris

You must be able to remove it to fit the after market chrome instrument surround.

Ahhh, something else I may desire, so many things so little money.
Chris

Tell me about it!

I took delivery of my second hand Jaguar chrome ash tray from E-bay yesterday and fitted it last night.

It looks the dogs! - and only paid £18!!!

I modified the inside bit of the original unit to fit the chrome one - which makes it look like new.

Lots of other shiny baubles temting me now.

You may be right Chris, but certainly all the instrument packs that I've seen (I've seen a few now) have that plastic screen welded to the whole unit. Perhaps there is an age issue - or perhaps there is a repair kit, which is what is referred to in the service repair instructions???

Well, I'm confused. If there is a way of removing and replacing the 'window' then I too would very much like chrome instrument rings! But I have never seen these for the MGF.

Talking of silvery bits - you haven't even scratched the surface... there is a whole BRM parts catalogue to be plundered (I should know ;o) - see http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/BRM_concept.htm ) :o)

I believe Chrom design do the Chrome kit for the MGF Instrument panel.
Chris

Yep, try

http://www.chromdesign.de/eframe.htm

go to the Shop and select MGF, lots of goodies there.
Chris

Whilst browsing Chrom-design, take a look at the twin windscreen defroster example, scroll down to the second picture, has anyone seen that red and white MG dash badge for sale anywhere.
Chris

Paul,

Where did you get your bespoke dials made? Sounds tempting !!

Dan

Chrome instrument pack trim is indeed there Chris. Not quite what I'd want though; I'd be more keen on instrument rings - the item shown is a little OTT, IMO.
Rob Bell

Not got round to doing any more on this yet, but will hopefully over the weekend.
