MG MGB Technical - Wedge or Square M/C reservoir

I just purchaseda new M/C for a '77 B, which came without a reservoir. The original M/C has (had) a "wedge" shaped reservoir. (Lockheed)
Can I utilize a "square" shaped resrvoir on this car, since it appears that the two reservoirs mount to the M/C differently, and the M/C I have will only accept the "square" reservoir?

I am sure it will work; but I'm concerned about hood clearance. It seems Mighty close.

A 77 should have the boosted master, which has a rectangular wedge-shaped reservoir. Before that dual unboosted systems had an angled circular reservoir, both plastic, and single-circuit systems had a rectangular metal reservoir (although some European countries had a remote circular plastic reservoir.

I'm not clear what master you have actually received, but it may be the wrong one for your car.

The unboosted and boosted dual circuit masters work completely differently and it's not easy to switch between them. I also wouldn't like to experiment with mixing masters and reservoirs where brakes are concerned.

JR. Most of the current master cylinders have the square shaped reservoir. I have not seen any master cylinders (new) which were shipped without the reservoir attached. Yes, the square shaped reservoir will work fine on your 77B. I am using one on my daughter's 77B with no problems over a number of years.
