MG MGB Technical - Voltage stabilizer & flasher mounting
Hey Folks, its the abandoned 73B project guy again. :) Thanks to this B/B I am well on my way with the dash harness. I do however, have a couple of additional questions. Can someone supply me with the mounting locations/methods for the flasher & stabilizer? Second, it appears that there are 2 switches on each door, one for the courtesy lights and one for a buzzer? what is the Moss part number for the buzzer switch? Thanks, Tom in snowy upstate NY |

On a *UK* 73 the stabiliser is screwed to the lower part of the vertical firewall in front of the driver (RHD remember) and the turn flasher pushes into a spring-clip near that. The hazard flasher is behind the centre console. The buzzer switch is an insulated 2-terminal switch, unlike the courtesy light switch, 131-600 I think. It is fitted to the drivers door only, also unlike the courtesy light which is fitted to both. |

My car is an early 74 before the Sabrina overriders, essentially a late 73. The US left hand drive has the voltage stabilizer on the left side, in relatively the same place as Paul Hunt describes, but on the left side of the car. The turn signal flasher is still on the right side of the car, under the glove box. My guess is that when they designed the US wiring harness, they moved the voltage stabilizer to the left (with all the gauges, etc) but failed to move the turn signal flasher to the left. As Paul says, the US model has both door switches on the left and the single switch to operate the courtesy light on the right side door. The seat buzzer switch will be wired into the sequential seat belt module, which is a circuit board in a black plastic box mounted on the inner framework above the radio. The buzzer speaker is next to it. Hope that helps. Ken 1974 mgb roadster |

Hey Tom, I didn't realize there was another thread about the dash harness. In the picture from Rick that shows the center console, you can plainly see the emergency flasher attached, but that's not the original place. Below the radio hole you'll see a square black object. That is a metal clip, and originally the emergency flasher was pushed into that clip. In the picture from Clifton you can see the voltage stabilizer. The picture is rotated 90 degrees, but between the 2 green wires that go to the top of the picture you can see the voltage stabilizer. It's a rectangular cube with 1 screw holding it in place. Make sure it's well grounded. Ken |
