MG MGB Technical - T-connector in boot connects to what?
Hi everyone! I'm still trying to get my "95% restored" '72 roadster project on the road. A few questions: 1) The little T connector in the right side of the boot floor by the bulkhead: what does it connect to? Under the car, I can see that a plastic tube connects to it, but the other end isn't connected to anything. 2) My new SU fuel pump has 4 connection points: 2 spade connectors for the wiring, and two male tube connection - one on top and one on the end. What do these connect to? (Does one of them hook to the tube in question 1?) 3) When I was installing the new wiring harness, I found that there was a leftover White wire with a black stripe (bullet connector) when I connected the main and rear harnesses. Does anyone know what this connects to? I've been over the diagram a couple of times and can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated! I'm hoping to be on the road by the end of May. |

>1) The little T connector in the right side of the boot floor by the bulkhead: what does it connect to? The tube connects to a fitting on the fuel pump. This vent allows pressure to equalize inside the fuel pump body. The other ends of the tee inside the trunk are open, providing [hopefully] clean and dry air. >2) My new SU fuel pump has 4 connection points: 2 spade connectors for the wiring, and two male tube connection - one on top and one on the end. Are you sure there are two tubes? the insulator on one of the connectors might look like a tube, but it just covers the terminal screw. The small fitting on the fuel pump body (it swivels) is correct for the air vent. 3. I don't know the answer to the third question. Maybe it's an overdrive connection? |

Thank you! Thank you! That's solved yet another mystery for me on my car :) Simon >1) The little T connector in the right side of the boot floor by the bulkhead: what does it connect to? Brian; My 74 has an unused W/B wire in the bundle of connectors on the right fender liner. According to the factory wiring diagram the heated backlight on GT's used a W/B wire so I suspect the main main wiring harness was the same for the roadster and GT. I'm assuming that's wire you are asking about. Hope this helps. |

My '69 has two tees in the truck -- both connect to hoses going to the fuel pump. One goes to the body of the pump, the other to the plastic cap covering the points. Both emerge from the boot floor on the forward raised part. One is on a tube the extends about 5" into the boot and is affixed to the inner upright panel with a P-clip. It come into the boot through a grommet adjacent to the one that the wiring harness comes through. The other one is flush with the flat panel and is about 8" inboard of the first (i.e. towards the centre-line of the car). |
