whilst there is a plastic cup type of thing that is to blame sometimes, in my case, its the gearknob! It was a hloow wooden thing - very swiushy - filled with araldite, very silent. for now. mick |

My wood gearshift knob is also a talker. What is araldite? Charley |

Mine "swooshes" too. Araldite is a brand of two-part epoxy resin. Cheers, Tim |

Thanks T Jenner. I think I'll fill mine. It is an irritating sound. Charley |

Thanks for that it looks like i will have to invest in some araldite or a leather gear knob and to top it off i have purchased a new wooden one just my luck. cheers Garry |

For my Mk I I switched to a mundane factory style knob. It had a rubber bush that the shifter threaded into and you lock it by tightening a nut. No more vibrations or swishes. Not pretty but it's held up for 12 years. |

You sure its not gearbox noise coming up through the shift rod? Does it happen all the time or just when youre accelerating? Maybe replacing the gearbox oil wouldn't be a bad idea. |
