MG MGB Technical - SWAP ZS TO SU HIF44
CHANGING ZS TO A SINGLE SU HIF44, IS THIS A GOOD CHOICE? ALSO DO I REMOVE THE INDUCTION HEATER? |

Manny, I think you need an adapter between the SU and the standard air cleaner, but otherwise they are a straight swap. Doug |

Removed the standard air cleaner and fit a K&N. It sounds better and gives more air. Also fit a manual choke. The SU is much easier to tune so this is a good swap. The downside: Its still a single SU and the manifolds are not optimal considering the heat built-up right under your carb. In driving conditions no problem but if you are stuck in traffic it sometimes gives trouble. CJ |

Manny I just did my '79 B but I changed my manifold with one off a Austin Marina and a Monza exhaust with fantastic results!!I have a lot more power a smoother idle,a hill I used to have to downshift to 3rd and maybe 45 mph I can go up now at 50+ in 4th.My milage went from about 25 mpg to 30. I put a conical K&N filter on it with no clearance problems I wish I had done this years ago!I haven't compaired it with a twin SU setup but this is a lot simpler no syncro problems I haven't seen this conversion too much most people seem to go for the Weber conversion with the problems inherit,I have no flat spots it pulls strong all the way up to 4500 rpm(my limit)Go fot it!And if you can find a Austin manifold so much the better. There was a Marina intake for sale in the parts section for about 20 bucks it might still be for sale. Just look under MG Parts. |
