MG MGB Technical - steering column play

I've got a little bit of play when moving the steering wheel up and down mainly, on my 1978 B. It is only a very small amount of play and my sympathetic MOT tester said leave it.
Is it possible to change the top bush in the column or do I need to change the upper steering column if I want to eliminate this play.
The reason I ask is that when driving on our rough roads It appears I get some shaking from the steering wheel which probably is exaggerated by the small amount of play in the top bush.

It is possible to replace the bearing in the later full-collapsible column. It's contained in a housing which is retained by a couple of large pop-rivets and circlips. This may help - http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/scolumn.htm#5a and scroll up to the previous picture to start.
