MG MGB Technical - Speed Bleeders- they actually work!

Maybe I'm the last guy on the planet to figure this out, but I just discovered Speed Bleeders. All they are is a bleeder screw that contains a check-valve, but why, oh why, didn't I know of them years earlier? Including installation time, I just bled the entire system on my '73 B/GT in about a half-hour. All by myself, and it couldn't have been easier.

No personal involvement here, but these things have my VERY strong personal endorsement. They're nicely made and come with a nicely-fitted rubber protective cap. Isn't iot nice when a new product comes along that is simple to install and works exactly as it's supposed to - right away on the first try?

' Gotta love it!

They do work well when new.
Be careful tightening them up, there is no "give" like the standard screws, and the rear cylinder can shatter.

I broke two cylinders bleeding the brakes on a Marina 25 years ago because of them and my inexperience.

I heard a tip some time ago that works well and essentially duplicates the action of the speed bleeders. Take a length of bleeder hose, close the open end with a tight fitting screw and make a short cut in the tube just above the now closed end. On bleeding the brakes, the slit in the tube acts as a non-return valve, allowing the brakes to be bled single handed. It worked for me on my 73 MGB.

Follow-on note: the cut mentioned above is made along the lengthof the tube, about 1/2" in length.

Thanks for the cautions and alternatives, guys. True, I haven't lived with these for very long. Maybe I'll end up hating them. But for the moment, they sure seemed easy to use. I was cautious tightening them, but I am with regular bleeder screws as well. Just tight enough so nothing more comes out.

FWIW,
