MG MGB Technical - Something Missing?

I have a 1971 mgb roadster. While browsing the Moss catalog yesterday, I noticed some pieces of emissions control systems that are showing on the Moss diagrams, but not on my car. Specifically, the diagram shows an air pump with pully assembly, and a gulp valve assembly. Neither of these systems are on my engine.

And for that matter, there is no engine number plate on it. The engine was rebuilt in 1985, and I am wondering if the emissions controls were removed then. There is a 3 inch piece of rubber hose with a plug in it attached to the tube where the gulp valve assembly would appear to belong.

The Moss diagrams for all emgines show some version of these systems as far back as 1964. But I has a 1964 B and I do remember that 3 inch hose and plug being on it. No gulp valve.

My question is this - could I have a very early engine that was used instead of the orginal? Did the rebuilder just remove the systems? How would that affect the engine performance? Should I look to replace the systems if I have an opportunity to find the parts used or rebuilt?

I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas anyone might have. Thanks. Curt

It was all removed. If it worked, it did not really hurt performance, but they didn't work for long. If you are not having trouble getting it inspected in PA, you are well off without it. You can pull out the elbow with the hose on it and replace with a plain plug to clean up the engine compartment. The '64 should not have had that, must have had a later manifold fitted.
