MG MGB Technical - Soft top installation to header help needed

My car didn't have a top on it when I bought it, so I have no reference to look at...I have a stowaway frame and a header for my 1967 MGB. I purchased a top from aabestco.com which looks great, but I am trying to figure out how to attach it at the corners of the header. Some how the corner of the top folds/screws/snaps around each end of the header but I haven't figured it out. Can anyone email me a couple pictures of the corner of the header/softtop installed on their car or point me to a website that has pictures? The top has no snaps or screw holes up front to reference. I've got all the lift-a-dot buttons on the rear of the top and they all work great, but the corner of the header and how the top wraps around it has me perplexed. Before I go out and buy the Lindsay Porter book, I thought I'd tap the BBS braintrust first. Thanks for any photos/assistance. -Rod

Buy the book...you'll never be sorry that you did. I'll bet you've got wads of cash tied up in tools and such already...why not complete the outfit with some references, or are you just running on the cheap with a set of K-mart tools and a big adjustable wrench? There's no stigma attached to owning and using manuals when working on your car. Go to an aircraft maintenance facility or a local car dealership and look at what the mech's have out on their jobs with them...(hint) it's got words and pictures on it. There are some really knowledgeable people out on this board, and also some duct tape and WD40 types....Where do you think the smart ones got there smarts? Zen? Can you always sort out the right from the nearly right answers? MY pet peeve--'nuff said.

R.L.:
Easy on us slow ones. I have Porter's book and both manuels and still need someone to talk me through the details.

Rod:
Don't use duct tape.
Seriously, get the Porter book. It walks you through the process with pics. ST29 on page 159 shows the corner. Sounds like you might be missing the screw and cup washer that attaches the corner to the header.

You didn't ask, but a warm day in direct sun helps the fit.

Obviously I struck a nerve with Mr. Carleen. I have the Haynes manual and the Weber Carburetor manual, both of which have been invaluable in my rebuild of my 67 MGB, but neither of which cover (sic) the softtop installation. I also believe in a commoradery (sp?) that this BBS provides in helping each other. I am usually on the requesting side for info, but enjoy reading the threads to see if there is anything I can contribute. I have already recieved a couple emails from guys with pictures to assist me with the installation. Call me a tightwad, but I just saved $30 on a book that can now go towards a fuel pump that went bonkers on me the other day. I am frugal, but not cheap...you have to be to support this LBC habit. I've heard the book is great, but I will purchase it at another time. Thanks, for the tip, Bob...tomorrow is 87 and sunny so I will let the top warm up before the install. -Rod

I did mine earlier this year and don't think I did it right but I'm glad I didn't ask RL he apparently doesn't believe in sharing info and thinks if HE had to buy the book and figure out how to do it...Everyone should too!I don't know why people like him even bother to respond to someone's questions Oh well he is from Florida What do you expect!

Rod- choose a hot day so the fabric stretches, and a can of "Nashua Spray Adhesive" (Not 3M, the Nashua is so superior and worth every penny of the $9 cost). Keyword is snug-not tight. Mount the header on the screen for reference. Centerline the fabric to the header and work to either side pulling forward and to the side so that the drip pleats are horizontal, straight, and you have no s tretch wrinkle. The Moss pix under "Tops and Hardware" show the pieces which you might want to order complete so you can do a 100% job. Top fabric is cut to fold under screw down rubber rail pad. If no pix available anywhere, give me a personal e-mail and I'll shoot you some. Vic
