MG MGB Technical - Shock Therapy

Hey fellas,

Just picked up the July "Modifying Retro Cars" UK magazine and there is a section devoted to front and rear shock Spax conversions.

The rear's ok, I did works great, but the front, I ahve not seen this conversion kit available over here, Moss USA.

Depicts leaving existing lever arm, valve removed, fitting a bracket to lever arm mounts and bracket to a-arm.....Voila adjustable shocker...

Cost from MGB Hive in pounds is 200.00

Can anyone say that they have done and much improved.

Thanks, Dino

I did this very early on in the life of my "B" but I didn't gut the lever body. Obviously better motion control but I have never liked the mickey-mouse bracket and single shear bolt setup. I have monkeyed with mine several times (including shortening it to take a KYB shock as I could not find the original "monroe-matic" as a replacement) and am still underwhelmed.
On my autocross car I will be going full on coil over and on my street/spirited driver I will be going to uprated Armstrongs.

Mike!

p.s. Rear kit, although hampered by similar design issues, works much better and I am quite happy with it. Go figure!

I have this on a roadster. Valve in lever arm is removed and a plug inserted so that arm is disabled as shocker. I don't like the offset set up its mechanically wrong and I'm not convinced that I wouldn't be better off with uprated lever arms.

Rear Spax kit is crap as well, shockers mounted at an angle, too hard even at softest setting to the extent that it spoils stability on corners. I removed it and fitted uprated lever arms which are much more tolerable and don't spoil handling. And the lever arms are much cheaper as well.
