MG MGB Technical - Shell V-Power

Being relaunched as Shell V-Power Nitro+, but opinion is divided as to whether it is 99 octane as before, 100 octane, 102 octane, or the 102 octane might only be at 100 stations nationally. BP 102 was (is?) about double the price of their 98 octane.

Paul,
I filled up yesterday with this. It's the first time I've used four star. It is 99 octane according to the man behind the counter. He couldn't tell me what the ethanol content is though. I can't find that anywhere. I paid about 8p more than the 2 star (95RON) I put in the MX5. I have a run on Sunday ("drive it" day) so will see how it goes.

Steve,
IIRC 2* was 91 or 92 RON, remember those Japanese cars in the 70s that run on 2* (or is that a false memory of mine?) - 95 I think would have been 3* and 4* 97/98 and 5* 100/101 (IIRC)

I'd guess the Nitro+ remains at 99 as the 'rebranding' is possibly more about marketing or getting the names more in line globally (but I don't know any of that just guessing)

you could try requesting a safety sheet from them on the product and see what it says

I've not used V-Power for a while, I'm happy with the Tesco 99 Momentum although I should really use 95 to save money as that's what my midget was set up on, i do sometimes use 95 but if I worried too much about petrol costs i'd never run a classic
Nigel Atkins

used it at the weekend in a N43 2litre - can't say it did anything for performance or economy. I am not sure it's relevant to our MG kit unless for skimmed heads.
