MG MGB Technical - Saab 900 Spacesaver wheel for MGB
There is a Saab spacesaver wheel on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=599321853&r=0&t=0 Exactly what year Saabs should I look for in my local boneyard for one of these?

Tom Mid 80's is a safe bet. I don't know the cutoff, but I have one from my 87 that fits. I know that the ones from my 90 and 91 do not fit. Rich 90 900 91 900 72B 67BGT

Tom Take one of your wheels off the car, spare will do, and a piece of paper. Hold the paper up against the wheel lug holes and mark the openings with a pencil or pen. Then, while looking at wheels at your local Pick Ur Part use this template to be sure the wheel will fit. Larry

I have one from a Nissan that fits perfectly. I heard that wheels from the 240Z's fit as well.

Larry and I went to the boneyard and picked up a couple of both Saab and Nissan spacesavers that fit on a B. We know they fit, because there was a B in the boneyard to try it out on. Rich B seems to have the empirical data for the Saab's to say pre-90 for the 900. The Nissan wheels we found were from the very early Maxima (sometimes called an 810). The Nissan wheel is a little larger and closer to the original diameter of the B.

I'm in the market for a set of cheap steel wheels to mount my tires on while I work on restoring my original Rostyle wheels. Just for clarification, what is the size of the stock wheel? 14 X ? My car is a 1973 B. Thanks a lot! Alex

can anybody give me an idea how this works out: you put a spacesaver spare in the boot to be able to get more luggage in. Then you are on a holiday trip, boot full of luggage and IT HAPPENS: the wheel goes "kaput". Then you fit the spacesaver wheel and, because there is no space for the flat, but still valuable wheel rim, you ask your codriver to put the flat tire/wheel on her/his knees (and the up to then good and expensive clothes) or do you throw the wheel away and leave it on the roadside? just asking.....

Joern, I do´nt mean to be cheeky. But that is why I carry a big plastic sack to carry the "flat" in. It gets crummy but not dirty. Fröliche Weinachten Erich

Joern, That's why I carry the gunk saves space and weight. Paul

I point this out to everyone who wants to buy one, but they still buy! They don't need to go in the boot - they will fit behind the pass seat - if the pass has short legs! I also just carry the tyre inflating/sealing gunk and have done thousands of miles at home and abroad with no problems - after all you can always buy a new tyre or get it fixed at any local garage/tyre place. I only carry the spares you can't get easily, like points, fuel pump, U/Js etc.

Chris, The customer is always right, but very reassuring that you give them the option. Paul

Alex: your stock Rostyles are 14x5 with 4 by 4.5 lug pattern.
