MG MGB Technical - removing diff

how do i remove the diff from my banjo axled car?

i know i have to remove both halfshafts temporarily, hot do i do this?

cheers.

Drain the lube, disconnect the u-joint at the diff and slide a block, under the driveline, up in the tunnel to keep the driveline out of the way, remove the nuts holding the diff to the axle, rotate the brake pipe holder off the top stud, tap the diff with a mallet to break the gasket seal and slide out.
Lee Bradley

To remove the half shafts you just remove the wheel if a disc wheel car or remove the four nuts on the studs which are around the flange of the spline assembly if a wire wheel car. (I don't remember any retaining screws such as used on the midget, but one might be present, if so remove these also.) The axle shaft should then slide out of the bearing support. You might have to use a slide hammer if they are really tight. Remember to replace the gasket when reinstalling the axles to prevent leaks. Once the axles are out of the center section you can procede as Lee described.
