MG MGB Technical - removal of vacuum assisted servo unit

hi
79mgb

i need to remove ONLY the brake vacuum servo unit for repair !

i remove the unit's rear bolts ,o.k. although a pain to get to.
loosen the clamps holding the brake fluid lines, o.k.

then what ?
the point is that i do not want to have to remove or mess up the brake master cylinder.

is there a further pocedure to follow or some trick to the removal of the servo unit only, or can one now simply move the master cylinder aside and then pull out the servo unit ?

thanks !!

John, there is the rod which goes to the pedal box from the servo - there is a clevis pin which needs to be disconnected before you can take the bendix servo unit away from the master cylinder.
It is because of this rod to the pedal box that makes the servo such a pain to remove.

There are two bolts and nuts which connect to the master cylinder. These have to be undone.

You will have to twist the unit up, down, sideways, angle it and what I know not what to be able to get it out of the engine bay. Took me ages to find the rights angle/position. Good luck...

If you are seperating the servo unit into two halves to replace the rubber diaphram inside - do it slowly and carefully; there is a strong spring inside which pushes the two havles away from each other. There are small parts inside. To remove the spring you have to push a small 'lip' in to get to the base of the spring/diaphram - look very closely and you will find it.

It is as much as I can remember - hope it helps.

Otherwise not too difficult at all!!
