MG MGB Technical - red distributor cap???

Does anyone know of a company that manufactures red distributor caps for Lucas distributors? I have a customer looking for one for a TR6 and can't find a source. Mallory does not make them - my first guess.
Looks like paint might be the answer?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I seem to remember washed out, red distributor caps on Volkwagen Rabbits (Golf MkI). Bosch?

Derek Nicholson

Bosch caps are sort of brick-red....

So the new question might be:- "Does Bosch make distributor caps for Triumphs?"

Derek Nicholson

One has to wonder..."Why?"...but then, to each his own.

Good luck.

Perhaps try some Krylon Vinyl Paint?

Red ones go faster, maybe?
Rob Edwards

I think clear would be kind of useful. You could look to see if you're getting spark. Unless you've go pertronix!

It is probably Bosch. They make replacement caps for all sorts of vehicles.

I like their replacement caps but have not found their rotors to be as good for an MG. Seems they like to put RF noise suppression resistors in the Bosch rotors I have gotten ~ maybe I have not gotten the right ones tho. Possible where I live as MG stuff seems to confuse some counter persons unfamiliar with the make.

Not sure, but from the Bosch site the TR6 P/N is 3126. As we're talking a Lucas 6 cylinder distributor, I looked on www.rockauto.com and see that they call for the same P/N from Beck Arnley for the MGC & TR6 (1740224). For the TR6 they also offer the Bosch 3126 but neither the Bosch nor Rock auto have a P/N for the MGC! Odd. That's all I can find. Also did a quick check in the MGC archives and turned up nothing about Bosch distributor caps.

Hello,

I found one from ECHLIN in the past. A very good one with brass posts instead of cheap Al like in Lucas.

Cheers,

Jean Guy, was that for your 'C? Was it a red Bosch? I must say, I had no idea what Echlin was. Googled it and found http://www.napaechlin.com/ . I know NAPA, what the heck is an Echlin? When did they get into bed? I just poked around their site and came up with 2 caps listed for the TR^ and non for the MGC.

Derek Nicholson

Derek,

I do not know the story or merging NAPA & Echlin. But I still have a thei catalog # for British car

EX:

point rotor Cap

TR6-GT6(LUC) CS207A EP44 EP55

MGB 70-74 CS207A EP41 EP48

For MGC, I loooked in 2 cat. echlin & B.W. and they are wrong as it is the same info as MGB, an a MGC is a 6 cyl. But if I look for A.-H.63-67,( I don't know if it is the same.

IT IS: CS207A EP44 EP46

In fact if you could point me the same distrib. model from another car, I could give you the #.

It was not red but between red-brown.

Cheers,

JGC

Wow! Thanks for all the replies! Great info to have Jean!
I didn't expect anyone would be able to help on this one!
(Rick) Why a red cap? It looks nice with a fully polished distributor! And maybe he liked the looks of the logo on my website? I knew I should have stuck with the brown logo! It'll probably make the car go a little faster too - that's what red does best!
Thanks again everyone!

OK...I'll buy that...guess that's why I have a clear distributor cap on my V8.

Echilin has been NAPA's supplier of ignition and fuel system parts for as long as I can remember. In my experience, ther parts have always been first rate.

NAPA has these kind of agreements with other suppliers as well. Gates is now spplying NAPA belts and hoses under the same catalog number, Walker supplies their exhuast systems, and Chicago Rawhide their seals.
Peter Van Syckle

Gates and Walker I know. Echlin just doesn't ring any bells at all.

Derek Nicholson

Echlin was, and may still be, an office in Connecticut. Not sure anyone ever made anything, except push paper. Borg Warner, and Standard, and various offshore suppliers would private label for them. Peter C

You have been in the backwoods TOO long --Echlin been around since Edison --well almost !
