MG MGB Technical - Rear Carb and Exhaust backfiring

My 1973 mgb roadster is playing up. With the air filters removed, when I rev the engine up, the car backfires and flames come out of the rear carb and the exhaust. My carbs are HIF4. Any ideas please?

You may want to check for a vacuum leak at the carb or intake manifold. A sticking valve is also a possibility. I would make sure it is properly tuned, plugs, cap, rotor, wires , timing, carb settings first
