MG MGB Technical - power steering

Anyone know what make/model rake they use in the power steering conversions?
Dave.

Sorry RACK!

I just noticed that MGOC offers a power steering conversion for chrome bumper cars. Clifton

Dave,

No - they are very secretive about that!

Rumour has it that it is a Toyota rack but I don't know which one - I do know that the Celica power rack is a similar width to the B rack, but it works "upside down" as the Celica's rack is placed behind the axle rather than in front as in the B.

Another rumour is that it is a left-hand-drive Peugeot 306 rack transferred to the RHS of the car.

I have successfully fitted a home made version of the Power Steering to my mgb roadster. I am happy to contact anyone who needs advice on how to do send me your email address.

You will need access to basic engineering tools, Lathe Pillar drill, press, welding. but the concept is simple and not beyond the good diyer.

good luck!!

Dave,

Instead of a power steering conversion, you may want to consider the front suspension setup offered by Fast Cars inc. It's not power steering, but the steering is a BUNCH easier with it, plus you get vastly improved handling as well.

Cost for the unit is $3750 FOB. I don't know how that compares with the cost of MGOC power rack, or a DIY setup, but it would be a lot easier to install. Installation is an easy afternoon job, as it's truly a "bolt-in" set up.

If the Fast Cars rack comes anywhere enar the price of a power steering unit, I'd recommend it as you get both the ease of steering AND improved handling.

You can see an ad for this unit on page 30 of the latest issue of Grass Roots Motorsports magazine. Or you can Contact Fast Cars at: fastcars@chartermi.net

I've driven MGBs with this unit, and it is transformational! I have one on order for my own car.

Rob, I would also be interested in such a modification to my steering. Please forward any information you have. I am a DIY kind of guy.

Thanks David

Hmmm. I must be some kinda Hulk as I've never noticed any difficulty turning the wheel... even with 205/55R-14 gumballs on there.
