MG MGB Technical - No lights

I had driven to a function during daylight and left at night. When I flipped on the headlight switch nothing happened, no lights. The brake lights, directionals, hazards and high beams all worked but the dashboard lights and head and tail lights did not work. I fiddled with a few connections in the dark without success. I decided to drive it home with the hazards on and highbeam stalk held on. I drove a little way and noticed that the headlights and dash lights came on. I figure it has to be a bad connection but I am unsure where to begin to look. Any hints?

As no running lights at all were working you have to be looking at the main lighting switch and its connections. The headlamp flasher uses a different circuit and supply.

Brown takes 12v into the switch (careful, it is unfused) and in position 1 red or red/green feeds the instruments and parking lights, blue the headlights. I would suspect either the brown connection or the switch itself.
