MG MGB Technical - missing at speed
| 74 GT is on the road and running fairly well. Around town it runs great and pulls up to 5000 RPM, but when I'm on the freeway and running at a constant speed in fourth or overdrive it misses. No backfire just hesitation kind of a sputtering. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. fuel pump is new. Tom |

| Tom, From your description, it could be a lean fuel condition at mid speed. You can try pulling out the choke when the miss occurs, if that helps you probably have a mid speed lean condition. I suppose I should back up and say the timing, dwell and valve settings should be right before assuming it is a lean condition. If it is a mid speed lean condition slecting carb needles with a thinner profile should help if the condition cannot be corrected with the jet adjusting screws. Good luck, Clifton |

| interesting update: Since posting the first post I have sprayed out the engine bay cleaned it all out water and cleaner everywhere. I had to dry out the distributor cap wipe it out, and dry every thing out. I took the car out on the freeway after this and the missing has stopped! Could I have inadvertently fixed the problem? | Tom, If it's working now you must have fixed it. Hope it doesn't appear again. Clifton |
