MG MGB Technical - missing at speed

74 GT is on the road and running fairly well. Around town it runs great and pulls up to 5000 RPM, but when I'm on the freeway and running at a constant speed in fourth or overdrive it misses. No backfire just hesitation kind of a sputtering. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. fuel pump is new.

Tom, From your description, it could be a lean fuel condition at mid speed. You can try pulling out the choke when the miss occurs, if that helps you probably have a mid speed lean condition. I suppose I should back up and say the timing, dwell and valve settings should be right before assuming it is a lean condition. If it is a mid speed lean condition slecting carb needles with a thinner profile should help if the condition cannot be corrected with the jet adjusting screws. Good luck, Clifton

interesting update: Since posting the first post I have sprayed out the engine bay cleaned it all out water and cleaner everywhere. I had to dry out the distributor cap wipe it out, and dry every thing out. I took the car out on the freeway after this and the missing has stopped! Could I have inadvertently fixed the problem? Tom

Tom, If it's working now you must have fixed it. Hope it doesn't appear again. Clifton
