MG MGB Technical - MGBGT 1977 V8 Alternator

I have installed a 65amp alternator on my V8 conversion. Given that the original wiring harness is designed for the four cylinder alternator having a lesser output am I likely to experience any problems with the higher output through the old loom?

Peter,

your new alternator ic able to charge at 65 amps but it will not do this most of the time.
I once changed to a 90 amps Delco but it was only robbing power and 'eate' the belt but ther were no issues with the stock wiring of the car. I swaped it for a 65 amp Bosch some year later and this size seems to be perfect for me.

I have run the Range Rover alt. (87 to 90?) that is 85 or 90 amp. on a lot of V-8 M.G.s & no problem.

I'm using a 100 amp, that came with the motor. I ran a wire direct, down the front of the motor and back, from the amp to the starter terminal. The origional probably would have been alright, however I did already have the heavier wire from the rover loom with its terminal attached. Also I used the old alternator MG Loom wire as a power supply to some fuses to run the fan, computer, fuel pumps and just lately the headlight relay.

Doesn't matter how much the maximum output of the alternator is, the car will still take the same as before and that is what the wiring will have to carry. Only if you were putting some high-power devises on the car would you have to consider uprating the wiring.

Thanks all for your valued comments (as usual) - what a forum.
More questions to come.
