MG MGB Technical - MGB LE Specs

Can anyone list me the differences between the 79/80 MGB Limited Edition and a regular 79/80 MGB ?

I am in process of finishing a restoration and want to know the things that were part of the LE Model.

Also, what side body/door decal was used for the LE and are they available anywhere ?

Thank You...

Derek. Off the top of my head, the only thing you have missed is the tire pressure decal inside the glove box lid. This should show the tire pressure for 185mm tires instead of the standard car's 165mm tires. All of the parts necessary to make a "replica" LE are available except this decal. Les

The tyres were 185/70's.Most were Uniroyal at the time I visited the factory in '79 and the compound was literally full of US LE's.

Les,

Can you say what the tyre pressures given on the decal were for the 185/70x14.

I have and exUS 74 CB roadster. Its glove box decal gives pressures for cross ply and 155x14. However, I use 185/70x14 or 185/60x14 depending on what I am doing. The pressures I use are not as given on the glove box decal for the 155s.

David. The plaque shows 21 psi front and 23 psi rear for the 18570-14 tires. Daughter's 77 and a standard 79 show 27 psi front and 32 psi rear for the 16570-14 tires. I normally run about 32 psi, all the way around, in my cars. Ride comfort is not quite as good, but the handling is somewhat better. The concept of running lower tire pressures in the front is to cause some understeering characteristic to be present. Many "safety experts", at least the ones in the US, decided that the "average driver" was safer in a car that understeered rather than oversteered. Hence, higher pressures in the rear tighers to give them slightly more grip than the front tires. Most of us who own these cars today are not average drivers and playing with tire pressures can result in some handling rewards. Remember also that the way the tires are made and what they are made out of has changed over the years which can have a significant impact on what tire pressures are needed and whether the tires are suitable for a specific car.

A couple of years ago, I had a new set of Michelin tires mounted on my wife's Mustang convertable. Do not remember exactly which model of tire it was as there seem to be quite a number of them now. Car handled poorly and scared me when driving at 65 or greater. Contacted Michelin and they said the tire was totally unsuitable for such a light car. It was designed to give a comfortable ride on a heavy luxury car. Michelin recommended another of their tire line which, when installed, worked quite well. Thus, pay attention to what the tire seller is putting on the car (might even be worthwhile to contact the tire manufacture before buying their tires to see if the manufacture considers that line of tires suitable for sports cars) and play with the tire pressures to see what works best for you. This is the soft car , right ? The GTs were an attractive metallic pewter colour.

S. We are discussing the North American specification Limited Edition models. Hence, no GTs because they quit exporting them to the US in 1975. The UK specification Limited Edition cars are a different item and did have GTs as part of that series. Les
